(great way to reference description so I can grasp the idea!). 

I tried to sharpen and flatten those plates as much as I could but still a little cobblestone-y. If I were to start from scratch, I think I could implement the technique a bit better. I might have to try again on a new page. I did get a chance to revise some other things though. for me, one of the best ways to learn to improve is revisiting previous work with fresh eyes to see what i could have been done better. 

I think I'm finally getting some of the subtle nuances of inking (after more studying of the greats).

Also, whoever claims John Byrne doesn't draw backgrounds - let alone highly detailed backgrounds - is out of their F'n mind!

I had to go back and make some corrections on Doom's capes. One of  the things I struggled with on this page initially. Funny - seeing the page reduced down to size shows you what didn't quite work. I'm sure in a day or two I will see more!

If I may be so bold as to offer some commiseration on drawing cloth:

1) I try to remember most folds are soft edges.

2) If there's decent ambient light, the fold-valleys should be in half-tones, not full shadow.

3) Unless there's wind or motion, soft cloth "hangs" with gravity from a point straight above.

One artist who used to make a living drawing mythical Mediterranean people in togas was Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema.  You might enjoy looking at his work.  The brightness of his style compliments Mr. Byrne's to my eye.
