A curious coincidence! Last night, driving home from dinner with a friend who lives in upstate New York, my GPS guided me thru Salem Center. No sign of the X-Mansion, tho!

Since you were that close to them, it makes me wonder:
Are the X-Men satisfied with the way you portray them? I seem to remember the Thing and the Human Torch not being too crazy about you chronicling their adventures... ;)

Perhaps the old site of the Mansion is hidden with holograms to block satellites and people from seeing it.
Also before last month X-Men's relaunch the Mansion has been moved to Limbo!!! And after that, Central Park!!! It could have been worse: They could have moved the Mansion to Lila Cheney's Dyson Sphere!!!

One of the things that has been lost over recent decades, one of the things that kept Marvel a clearly defined separate entity from DC, is the way the books used to be grounded in their own kinds of reality. Headquarters most often represented this. The Fantastic Four had a skyscraper in Manhattan, the Avengers a mansion on the East Side, by Central Park. The X-Men had another mansion, in Westchester County. Dr. Strange had a house in Greenwich Village. Peter Parker a house in Queens.

No space satellites, hollowed out mountains or hidden caves. That would come much later, as Marvel started to see more and more cross pollination, with writers and artists drifting back and forth to DC, and more and more fans becoming the people running the show.

Eventually, there came a point when Marvel and DC were virtually indistinguishable.

(Confession: a "hollowed out mountain" is in the X-Men's future, in the ELSEWHEN timeline, but trust me! It will make sense!)

I've been asking myself if there are any other projects I might want to tackle in this manner. Itches left unscratched. The FF are always orbiting. Whether they land remains to be seen!

............................................................ ........................................................

Has the time arrived yet for the FF to make their landing from orbit?  (I can hope!)  I have not peeked ahead too much, but I have seen that Elsewhen ends currently on a cliffhanger involving Dr. Doom.  Would it make sense for the All-New, All-Different FF to pick up where this loose end left off?

Meanwhile, I am enjoying playing catch-up with issue 2 "Prototype".  From Kurt's comments about "monsters' after returning to the mansion, it seems that Nightcrawler and Wolverine experienced the same, or at least similar, events to the story in X-Men #139-140.  I have always loved the "odd couple" aspect of the relationship between Kurt and Logan.  Kurt is one of the few with the ability to sneak up on Wolverine and get the best of him as he did here.  It makes sense that they would challenge each other periodically in a hunt to hone their respective talents and abilities. Nightcrawler and Wolverine are polar opposites in many respects.  From their appearances, you would think that Kurt has the darker nature of the two of them but that is obviously not the case.  I get the sense that Kurt would not hurt a fly if given the choice, whereas Logan...

Cerebro sensed the mutant in the vicinity of Kitty and Ororo.  Is it fair to say that the Sentinel was seeking out that individual and not Kitty or Ororo?

It was nice to see Xavier and Scott visit the Grey family.  I cannot help but wonder how Scott is coping with this situation.  The flying toy raises some interesting questions.  It had not occurred to me that there would be anything inappropriate about Jean's continued love for Scott.  Granted, Jean now has a 5-year-old mentality but her feelings for Scott were developed in the context of a healthy, loving relationship, so the diminution of her mental abilities should not change the fact that her core feelings still exist and were not destroyed by the Shi'ar.  Speaking of which, there were no updates in this chapter from the Shi'ar Empire, but I am sure that there are still matters developing there to be touched on in the future.

I agree with what others have observed about the "tight" pencils in "Prototype" compared to the first chapter.  The additional fine detail delineated in these pencils would make inking almost redundant.  I remember Jack Kirby had a long-time inker on one of his Marvel titles whose product did not serve the pencils well at all.  Even that artist could not go wrong in inking the detail of these pencils since it is all there on the page.

Sorry, Timothy, you may have missed the thread where I announced my retirement.

............................................................ .....................................................

Why doesn't anyone tell me about these things?!!!!!

Seriously, though, I hope you are enjoying your retirement.  I crossed paths with you once at Comic Con International.  I was walking out of the convention hall at the same time that you were walking into the hall.  It was completely unexpected and a pleasant surprise, but I did not want to come off like Fanboy from that episode of "Freakazoid!" so I simply said hello and told you that I really enjoy your work and then proceeded on my way.  It is a rare opportunity in life to be able to express appreciation to a writer and artist whose work you admire.  (I cannot remember what year that was, but I know that you have not attended CCI frequently in the last 20 years.)

Please let me thank you again for your wonderful work on the first 2 chapters of Elsewhen.  (I will check around the forum to see if you still do commissions since I have been out of the loop for more than a few years regarding the JBF.)
