Any time my art turns up outside this Forum (excluding reviews and collectors forums) it’s safe to assume it came from this site.

Took me about three minutes to locate THIS.

JB,

This series is amazing. It has me thinking about my MUCH younger days of reading comics.

I was looking through some old comics a few weeks ago and came across this gem from FANTASTIC FOUR 262:

It has me wondering how much your comment from that time is playing into the story.

Thanks

That page of art, with no combat or even conflict, is a pure treasure. From facial expressions to Colossus thinking he's Supe- thinking he's Gladiator lifting that house*, to that splendid solution to a tricky problem.

As for that last panel... it's really dusty in here, and my allergies are acting up. I'm sentimental... don't judge me.

*Yes, I know how both men of steel lift buildings. Makes me consider how that climactic battle in X-Men 137 might have turned out if Gladiator had had that least bit of lack of confidence.

That's a very interesting development.

Nevair!!!

My paternal grandfather had an expression: "Born too near the brook." As I slip ever deeper into my dotage, I find even TV commercials can sometimes make me well up.

Here we see one of the many manifestations of how much fun it was working at Marvel in that period. Shooter, when I took on the FF, challenged me to "restore Galactus". So I spent a couple of years doing so. Claremont did not approve of how I handled it and, without permission from the FF Editorial office, had Lilandra confront and threaten Reed and Sue in their own bedroom.

When I saw it (after publication, of course) I was livid. I called Shooter--Mr. "Everything Must Be Approved By The Editors" himself—and demanded some kind of published retraction in the books. He said "respond to it in your story!"

Which I did, and the story turned out pretty good, but to this day I remain frustrated that I was FORCED to do it. (Somewhat ironically, much as Chris was forced to do the Death of Phoenix.)

What were Claremont's issues with how you handled Galactus? I thought it was pretty groovy, myself.

He objected to Reed and the others saving Galactus, since Phoenix “had to die”.

Which kinda missed the whole point of Galactus.

I'm curious as to what CC didn't like, as well, JB. I thought you'd done exactly what Shooter asked- you restored Galactus. The arc involving him is my favorite of your entire FF run, as well as some of my all-time favorite comic books.

And I always wondered why Galactus looked like a giant human being... until you explained that was how ALL lesser beings could possibly comprehend him, by 'seeing' him as something they could relate to (their own form).

Heady stuff for a comic book!

*Sorry- I posted just as your response popped up...
