A mission, or merely a continuation of what was?

I saw this morning's page and thought, "Aw, dude! Why you gotta go do that? You can't go around it?"
I guess that's just how villains roll...

Magneto done RIGHT.... BRAVO!! I'm really enjoying this series, JB.
The characters I love in brand new stories. Drawn by my all-time favorite X-MEN artist!

As a recent addition to this forum's ranks, consider it my schoolboy error: "must try harder for original content"...

Not to dump on you specifically, Dean, but it amazes me that ANYBODY would think that was a "new" joke!!!

Sometimes, after decades of retcons, it's difficult to remember what a nightmare Magneto could be. Utterly remorseless. Only Ultron, Red Skull and Thanos were as cavalier about killing.

Random thoughts -- but my opinion on seeing Magneto in his evil glory is that X-Men vs. Magneto is a terrific "arch-enemy" pairing. And it has the odd effect of making an X-Men vs. Dr. Doom story feel somehow unnecessary.
The Doom story that Claremont and Cockrum did was lovely to look at, but felt like it actually made more sense when it was "revealed" to be a Doom-bot.
I'm probably wrong in that I can easily believe JB or Roger Stern could write an amazing X-Men vs. Doom story. But a good-and-nasty Magneto feels like enough in a somehow similar vein (to me).

I'm genuinely curious since I think that I'm misremembering - where have we seen Magneto committing mass murder in the comics by the time of ELSEWHEN?
(Ironically, there are clear cases of this happening by the time Claremont decided to start rehabilitating him and afterwards - he sank a sub with several Russians on board in #150, and during the 90s he sent an EMP across the planet, and it was explicitly stated that any airplane in the sky at the time would have crashed.)
