If this is also from issue 12 it looks like we are going to get more than
one flashbacks that retells some X-Men history. It will be interesting to
see how four decades of experience influence your art, JB. We have
had a few glimpses from commissions in the past, but I am looking
forward to how you approach some of these iconic images from one of
the team’s most iconic characters.

Significantly, that panel, in its original form (and via Chris' purple prose) actually tells us the whole story. Phoenix declares herself to be "no longer the woman you knew." Metaphor? Hyperbole?

As it turned out, neither.

That panel is absolutely stunning. This whole era...these topics. It feels like you are playing with fire in a way no else can.

I feel so lucky to have found this little corner of the internet.

Let me repeat myself just to emphasize that---others keep trying to capture that magic. Ans every single on of them has failed. Two movies! Dozens of other artists and writers have tried to move this story...and all of it has fallen flat on it its face. Hallow counterfeits.

Apparently, John Byrne alone "owns" these characters in this critical phase of their existence. No one else can tell their story. Just him. It's that simple.

We haven't seen Magneto for a few issues. With the wounds he sustained, it'll be interesting to see how he will fare against the Sentinels.

Come to think about it, that's back-to-back battles with the X-Men that Magneto suffered serious injuries.

He may not be able to deal with this onslaught.

That Phoenix shot… Very satisfying to see.   "Ah... there she is..." came to my mind.

Also, I've always liked the line down the front of her uniform for some reason (because it follows Cockrum's look perhaps?)

Wow! The story just keeps getting better and better,
and the sneak peaks at what's coming only seem to
reinforce the opinion... And the pencils are great too!

Keep it coming, John, and thanks again!

I have no plans for a Magneto appearance any time soon. I flirted, ever so briefly, with Xavier recruiting him to help against Dark Phoenix, but I decided to skip that cliche.

Slight amusement drawing the origin of Phoenix flashback. I’d quite forgotten how tiny the chest emblem used to be!

The level of detail on today's page it great!

The expression on Ben Grimm's face

The cat (that I originally thought was a rat 😁) underneath Xavier's wheelchair.
