This Spider-man page would be the one I'd buy if my budget allowed such things. I love everything about it.

On second thought....maybe I'll see if I could afford it.

 QUOTE:
Telepaths present one recurrent problem: is there any thought they don't "hear"? Do they have some kind of internal "ear plugs" they use to limit what they absorb automatically?

Since Charles Xavier is the most powerful telepath on Earth, I thought he'd be able to use his mental power to communicate with Iron Man while still observing his privacy, but... maybe not. Yikes!

On an entirely different note... That drawing of Spider-Man at the top of the page is - Dare I say it? - amazing!

Is the panel with Spidey's pupils an intentional Ditko callback? Love it.

"People need to use that more."

--

Careful! That could lead to it being overused, then it no longer feels special when it happens.

This may be only the second time that JB's done it that I can remember, and the first time was a direct reference to Ditko's panel during CHAPTER ONE.

More than any other Marvel hero, Spidey has always seemed like what it would be like if we (the reader) were a superhero... Makes me feel like I'm in the Sentinel battle now...

I absolutely love the startled Spider-Man dot eyes used in situations like this. That goes back to Ditko, right? People need to use that more.

••

I remember at least one reprint where Marvel removed those Ditko dots. An early warning sign of taking themselves FAR too seriously!

Then there was Grey Morrow's version:

That's creepy, but the new page is awesome! You draw a
great Spider-Man, John, especially anatomically.

" I have no plans for a Magneto appearance any time soon. I flirted, ever so briefly, with Xavier recruiting him to help against Dark Phoenix, but I decided to skip that cliche.

I thought magneto would be recruiting the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants

Amazing issue!

I can't stop thinking about how this battle is close to what I imagined got (would get?) the world in the "Days of Future Past" reality when I was a kid.

JB - This reminds me of the good old days of Marvel (and DC), when comics were fun, action-filled escape. What lost me later on in years is that the comics medium started taking itself far too seriously.

SPIDER-MAN! But of course Spider-Man! What a perfect note in this harmonious team-up. That page is incredible!

A question about those dots. You have been meticulous, as far as I know, to maintain the difference between Spider-Man's mask and Batman's mask. Batman's mask is pretty form fitting, and reflects his expressions - and as you have noted, shows his pupils when close enough.

I've long wondered what Peter Parker could have made those eyes on his mask* out of - transparent but one-sided. Now I see two holes - and I wonder if they're sufficient to simply be what he's looking through. I mean, were I Spider-Man, I would want a full view; but I don't have spider-senses either. Perhaps if you minded, Mr. Byrne, you discuss this, please.

*You've also evaded one of the things that I've seen other artists do which I LOATHE - when Spider-Man is unconscious, or stunned, the eyes reflect this. I don't think they're THAT flexible, any more than Iron Man's mask has eyes that would close if he were knocked out.
