Beyond the requisite splash page, the use of a full page image should be used sparingly and for maiximum impact. This is one of those times!! Fantastic, JB!!

Both the Phoenix story and DoFP hang around to haunt the comics for way too long... ••• I grew deeply weary of Chris’ constant dredging up of Phoenix. The most ridiculous example, imho, being his use of her as a villain in the X/TITANS crossover. One good thing did come out of it, tho. It severely muted complaints when Jean (not Phoenix) was brought back for X-FACTOR. Chris had so diluted her death only a very few fans still clung to it as something important.

More disappointments in store, I guess.

To elaborate: this Sentinel storyline has been running for 12 issues, with four different waves of Sentinels involved. Time to draw the curtain!

All that you are saying rings very true with me. The Titans crossover was weak. That and subsequent overuse of Phoenix minimized the impact, trivializing her death. That's why I am sticking with ELSEWHEN as the legit continuity. The X-men restored.
As a teenager, my young mind interpreted what I saw happen with the X-Men (and some other favorites) as: "The worse thing that can happen to something you love is for it to become popular."
There's an old saying that I think says it better: "Pioneers first...followed by Profiteers."

It's awesome that "beauty" is a Bob & Doug reference! Sentinels are a bunch of hoseheads, and they can take off! Literally!

Well, I grew up around people saying “beauty”, eh? When I first saw Doug and Bob, I said “Holy Cow! I went to school with them!” (No, not literally.)

I wonder if Gyrich's perspective has changed at all.

One would hope so. He's not a stupid character, just kind of a zealot.
