DeanHere is a long-ago thread about those unused X-Men plans, sparked by Cory Vandernet, who happened to have an old list of JB's X-Men story ideas.[LINK DELETED] +++++ Sorry, but I’ve been discouraging comparisons to that ancient list - JB

JB: Sorry, but I’ve been discouraging comparisons to that ancient list - JB
**
I'm sorry. I understand. Having just re-read some of the old thread again, it's immediately clear that people find it hard to believe that ancient list carried very little weight and was likely filled with ideas that weren't necessarily set plans or even really plans at all.
There's a lesson about history in there somewhere.

Most comic book artist's fans: "The way the villain broke the planet in half and threw the sun into another galaxy setting it on fire was so cool!"
Us: The bottom of that work boot is absolutely perfect!

I get the feeling Jean ain’t all there....so to speak. ••
Or, perhaps, not there at all............? >>
That reminds me of the start of this poem by William Hughes Mearns : "Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there! He wasn't there again today, Oh how I wish he'd go away!"

Thanks Mark - appreciate the thought.
JB - as I qualified in my original query - no problem whatsoever, I just had to ask.

I think Cyclops always looks his best with a thin visor.
I missed it when it went away
I remember thinking that Paul Smith got it right just as he was about to leave the series.

Fair enough. It seems the majority of people expressing an opinion do indeed prefer the 'slim' (cheesy pun intended) visor look.
At the risk of becoming a forum pariah, I actually preferred Cockrum's 'chunky' visor and forever-dated-in-the-seventies 'flared' boots (though I was never totally on-board with the Mr. Universe physique). But ultimately, if the characterization and plot are sufficiently engaging, each character's 'look' is secondary. *
* Exceptions being putting Wolverine in a blue bandana and giving him bone claws, and superfluous pouches - anywhere.

Wolverine in the last panel is wonderful - another moment in which I am so, so grateful we are seeing this in pencils.

Yes........ even the best inkers tend to go outside or inside the lines, and that can radically alter expressions.

I love a story like this because I want to make a million guesses, but odds are I won't get it right.
I'm a big fan of a smaller visor and boots on Scott, but I don't need a big continuity-laden story about 'em. They were bigger for a bit, JB slowly fixed them. I imagine the X-Men go through clothing pretty quickly, and maybe Hank was tinkering with the visor.
Seconding, thirding or fourthing it - Wolverine's expression is remarkable in that last panel. I love how quietly observant he is in this series. No need to monologue about his senses constantly. We see him use them.

As I’ve mentioned before, Dave used to sometimes wear big yellow leather buccaneer boots, and I used to envy the ease with which he pulled off the look. But I didn’t think that look was right for brooding, introspective Scott Summers.

Two pages today, since the first one is kinda low key, and also ends on bridging dialog.
