Q. Do you always use vanishing points in your work to determine angles no matter what the environment? JB: I will often use perspective grids even if I’m drawing a single figure without backgrounds. Perspective grids allow me to ground objects on the same plane.
Why do I think that most comic book artists working today would not know what you are talking about with planes and perspective? Your comments here really bring home how you develop depth of field in your artwork. I am gaining a real appreciation for the grid lines on your pencils that would become invisible after inking. Your artwork always has a real three-dimensional quality that makes it come alive, rather than sitting flat on the page. You have this in common with the likes of Kirby, Adams, and Perez, all of whom I suspect also see in three dimensions in their minds' eye.
