I wouldn't be surprised if the DARK PHOENIX writers came across your idea in their own research for the movie... ••• I’ll admit to having that thought, but truth to tell the seed of the idea would be pretty obvious to anyone sifting thru the original “saga”.

Question, then, is whether I should proceed with my story, or drop it and spare myself the hassle of being accused of stealing from the movie----------------------------------------------
Please, please, please go with your idea! ESPECIALLY if it was something from years ago! Did anyone even see Dark Phoenix? And, besides, if you've already mentioned the idea in an interview, there's no doubt that you came up with it first.

My selfish desire is a resounding "yes". ELSEWHEN is my canon.
Haven't seen the movie. Probably never will.
...and almost universally, "the book" is better than the movie. :)

"I bet Scott is glad Wolverine insisted on coming now!"
--
Scott must have been exhausted after the Sentinel battle. Why wouldn't he enlist the services of the one member of his team that excels at tracking people in order to help find Jean?

Speaking of which, at THIS point in the story, what exactly is Jean's current mental-make up? I know she "has the mind of a 5 year old" but does she remember anything about her past life? Does she just "know" these people, but her memories of the past 20ish years are gone?

Amusingly, I took a look at the Everything Wrong With site to see their opinion of DARK PHOENIX. About 30 seconds in the host says Jean Grey is narrating, which means she survives the movie.Hm. What would William Holden have said about that?

I say movie and those ignorant of the details be damned if they take issue with it. My vote, if I have one, is do it. Those ignorant accusers can be confronted with the printed proof of those interviews. We longtime fans will also know the real score.

These pages are fantastic - Cyclops and Wolverine going after Jean, in more ways than one.
I concur that you should do your original idea. It is, after all, fan fiction. So it's fair game by that definition. And those who know the true backstory will appreciate it further.
And by the way, if this is indeed fan-fiction, then Wolverine would not take a bullet(s) for Cyclops. Fan Fiction Wolverine would use Cyclops as a shield! This has got to be the only fan fiction in which Wolverine is improved and shown as a member of the team rather than a fevered fan boy wish fulfillment.

JB... Cyke and Wolverine at the top left of today's page... That's got to be one of those scenes you look at and think to yourself, "Darn, I'm good!"
