I might be mistaken, but... I have faith in Jean's character and spirit still being more than the Phoenix bargains for (copy of herself or not)...

Finally I think I know where you are going with this story, JB. If what I suspect is true, the final fight will be absolutely fair and will ultimately do justice to one of my favorite characters.

Thanks!!

Had an idea for where this might go but... don't want to guess just in case I'm right.

I’m interested in how this move pairs with the problems we’ve been seeing with Jean. I wasn’t expecting this!

This is so good. I'll like to double-down on Micheal's Thank-Goodness-It's-Not-Friday sentiment!

I thought the quasi-phantasmal Jean might be ignored by the Phoenix...clearly wrong!

I like that Wolverine has his claws out.  Also the "pray to you" comment was particularly powerful.

When you stop to think of all the (poor) ways Phoenix has been handled since Jean Grey's "death", there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that this story-line is, by far, the most compelling and feels the most "proper" and "correct".

Still, my mind wonders: "What happened to the Man-Who-Fell-To-Earth?"

It fascinates me how strong Jean must be to have controlled the Phoenix to actually being a super heroine! If that mucking Mastermind hadn't interfered, maybe Jean would have been Phoenix' controller forever...

COROLLARY: Phoenix was always at least cosmically powerful. I wonder if her rebellion to Jean's command was evidenced in Jean's falling to Magneto and Proteus? And not being able to break out of Magneto's prison-chairs? I would have thought that would have been like popping a balloon to Phoenix (which, apparently, she likes to do...)

Oh, and Mr. Byrne - you are an evil bastard. It hurt me to look at Colossus' transformation, but looking at Xavier's legs... that's agonizing. And his will in maintaining his composure while he must be in excruciating pain. (Leave us remember that his legs weren't destroyed when he fought Diablo. IIRC, they simply became useless.)

And then that sequence between Mrs. Gray and Phoenix. That's painful to read.

Evil, evil man. And to depict it with such grace and flair. Why do you make me want to see more of this agony???

Xavier's legs were crushed by a deadfall trap. Something I have struggled in vain to remind people who insist on referring to him as "paralyzed".

@Eric Sofer:

Obviously, I agree with your Jean's strength comment, but I never thought of Jean's power losses from the perspective of the Phoenix rebelling against her -it's quite an interesting idea.

Well, today's final panel was fantastic! I expected more Lil' Phoenix now that we were all caught up.

Based on Lil-Phoenix's words, it appears the situation is about to get even worse for our heroes. I'm dreading tomorrow!
