As for Lilandra, Charles is going to have to dig deep to find some compassion there, after all the things she did even before she bonded to the Phoenix
>>
I do agree. But, love can be blind after all. And while we are privy to some of the coldness Lilandra apparently has regarding telling the X-Men about the copy (which may or may not be due to the Phoenix's influence even then) I don't believe Charles is yet privy to all that. I've often wondered after the now fake lobotomy, how Charles would have reacted to Lilandra's role in it. Scott reaction was pretty obvious (and understandable) but maybe not Charles as Lilandra was the women HE loved (loves?)… Given that, surely he'd want to give her some benefit of doubt.

Beautiful pages, beautiful climax, and I cannot wait until Monday - this is such exquisite art that I feel I should be stalking you, Mr. Byrne, to sneak through your house to see upcoming pages, because I feel I can't wait!
However, as I learned after the last time I stayed up late for a midnight movie - in two weeks, the only difference is that I put myself to extreme effort for no reason.
However... um, am I the only one to note that we haven't seen Cyclops since page 7? I can't believe that's an accident... Mr. Byrne doesn't make accidents (or at least, we never see 'em.) Or did I just miss him in some panel?

Actually upon further viewings, I do believe Charles was shown in a somewhat protective posture above Lilandra, so it appears to me that he is concerned for her. Always get more info after re-reads of these packed pages...

JB, regarding the telepathic thought balloons in the series—I notice you rendering differently than they are traditionally done in the comics. What is the reason behind that?

I thought that might be the case!
I may take a crack at rendering the traditional version when I try my hand at fan-inking next. Seems like it will be difficult or tedious to do.

That's it. Mr. Byrne, you will find me tiptoeing through your tulips this weekend, try to sneak a peak. If I can get to CT somehow...
Ms. Jansen - damn near fell off my chair laughing. Brilliant!
P.S. Will it help if I bring homemade chocolate chip cookies? My wife makes the best!

I love the economy of figure drawing in the new page. So much said with so few lines. Someone mentioned Joe Kubert before who was also incredible... this is what decades of drawing leads to and it is amazing. It must be sometimes amazing even to the artist themself I might think! I've always had to struggle with three-dimensional imagining and drawing like many do and it's like a magic act seeing someone who seems to have really mastered it and makes it look so easy with each line being just right.
Comic books when done really well are just completely cool! Maybe that's why sometimes seeing something truly awful feels like some kind of assault?
