First!

A classic scene... And I'm sure it will be revisited as we know now that Jean met Phoenix before in X-Men: The Hidden Years!

Today's page is gorgeous. The ominous "tac tac tac" evokes iconic dread. The Space Shuttle was still 5 years away from it's maiden flight when X-Men #101 was published. Jean too is a visual throw-back too in some subtle way I cannot quite put my finger on.
  Thanks ;)

Tense page, I remember that feeling from the first time I read Eagle One plunging earthward!

Jean too is a visual throw-back too in some subtle way I cannot quite put my finger on.•• Probably the "open" hair. When Jean became Dark Phoenix I darkened her hair and, even after the "lobotomy" left it that way as a (hopefully) subtle indicator that the story was not yet over. ELSEWHEN is going in some different directions from what would have followed 137 without Shooter's interference, but the light/dark hair will still play an important role as a visual marker.

Nice! A really dynamic retelling of a classic sequence. Makes one imagine just how intense JB could make the FF's origin these days.

I know it's tiny, but I still can't get over how effective the brighter white on a pencilled page trick is.

Looks like a great re-telling of an important moment in X-Men history.

Right then, I know THIS retelling isn't going to have redrawn pages scissored in.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this version of the fateful scene

I'm really looking forward to seeing this version of the fateful scene•• But not all at once! There are some elements I saved for a few issues down the line. An issue I titled simply "Jean".

I'm really liking this page, especially the last panel as the restraints open and Jean floats away.
Looks like we are getting to the heart of things now...
