That page was quite shocking and totally unexpected.  I'm imagining that this version of Jean, even if mind controlled, will still harbour some resentment towards both Magneto and Scott.

Jean just sent me a thought: she thinks that, while flattering, that maybe JB could love her just a *little* bit less at this point as his love hurts... a lot ;-)

In the Magneto/X-Men reality...have Sentinels been “invented” yet?
I’d have to think our ‘current’ team is the more experienced bunch.

Also....I keep thinking one day Uatu turned around and looked across the cosmos...to see Heimdahl waving at him.  Like neighbors.

The WHAT IF? X-Men are contemporary to our own.

David,

I'm thinking by the time Bolivar Trask had plans to create the Sentinels, the "M-Men" may have taken over the world and crushed any resistance.

One of the fun elements of this story has been figuring out just how wide would range the ripples of Magneto gathering the original team, rather than Xavier. Today's page, relating back to that imaginary WHAT IF? cover, contains a reference to this.

(Imaginary WHAT IF? cover? I am in danger of creating a black hole!!)

Things I especially liked about today's page:
- reference to Magneto's mutants taking out their world's Avengers and Fantastic Four;
- the background! Those trees are beautiful!
- the balloon placement in the third panel, so that Angel's wings aren't clipped (as it were) and
- Cyclops not being squeamish about blasting a proven threat from behind.

...but aren't they forgetting Magneto is right there too? Could be an uh-oh.

This all raises a good point.

Magneto on his own can give groups of heroes a run for
their money. Here, he has a team of X-Men to assist him,
who are, it has to be said, more capable and powerful
than his previous Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

What if?, being what it is, is allowed to have the
villain win, so bye bye Avengers and FF - in the reality
that he came from.

So in our reality, Magneto and his team will present a
formidable enemy. And I am not going to speculate on
where this goes, regardless of my own thoughts on it. I
just find it interesting to think about what he has
achieved, what he has been used to and what the 'rules'
of What if? and our reality allow.

Liking things so far
