Jay B, what's your background while noise while you work, total silence? BBC? Classical music? Jazz? Ren and Stimpy reruns?  < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

Panel 2 is amazing . Always loved John Buscema's covers when he did this in his early Avengers runs .

When I see that kind of shot, I think Carmine Infantino. The characters-charging-at-each-other image was one of his go-to moves.

I wonder if there’s a point at which the design can truly be said to have started?

Maybe borrowed from movies where groups of people in a fight charge toward each other from either side of the screen? Seems I've seen that as far back as some silent movies.

The comics equivalent of the lone hero walking calmly away from an enormous explosion or the Tarantino slow motion walk of the cool  characters set to surfer music?  < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

No idea when it started and I own probably a dozen comics with the same kind of shot which pre-date the one below from circa summer 1975 but for me this is the one that's indelibly in my head because I was 10 at the time. I had to have it and when I finally got it many years later, the thrill remained!

Sorry, I should have been more clear: the image of two opposing super teams rushing each other is the comics equivalent of the go-to movie shots of the anti-hero walking away calmly from a giant explosion or the Tarantino slow motion walk of a group of rogues set to hipster music ... a go-to that always works.

Definitely appreciate panel 2 of today’s page. The overlapping of figures without looking like they are falling all over each other is very eye catching.
