"When I was reading JB's first run on X-Men, because of the housings on his gloves I always just assumed that the...holes?....were always there and the claws just popped out."
...
Speaking of those housings, early on I thought those were part of his hands. Especially after he had them with Fang's costume.
Who originated the "best there is at what I do" line and "bub"?
••
"Bub" came from Chris. It was firmly installed by the time I arrived, or I would have pointed out that it was not a particularly Canadian turn of phrase.
The other, was his interpretation of a line Archie Goodwin used in the graphic novel adaptation of ALIEN he did with Walt Simonson. "It does what it does best..."
As usual, great gems of information. After all, you're showing that Logan's surgical team probably is thinking of him the same way Ashe was towards the Alien: as a specimen rather than a patient, as no more than an opportunity not to be wasted.
Pretty remarkable that, in just the sheer number of issues, how little of the "real" Wolverine (in my opinion) we ever got to see.
But, to give credit where it seems to be due, it was under Chris Claremont's control that Wolverine (the best ninja, bub, etc.) toppled Spider-Man as the #1 Marvel character (something that as a kid I would never, ever have dreamed possible).
Probably easy enough to hide, too. Those metal bone assemblies are one of a kind. How would you know what to look for? Just need one or two of the doctors involved to know about it and the healing factor covers it all up.
What a Devil's bargain that was for Logan. Decades more suffering in a bed, or manipulated into becoming a weapon. He didn't have a choice, but it's still so unfair how they treated him. This story just keeps adding interesting layer after interesting layer.
I'm starting to get a Henry Peter Gyrich feeling about that doctor...that feeling you get when you meet a character that you just know you're absolutely going to love to hate.
And speaking of which, today's reveal casts a new arrogant and dismissive light (for me, at least) on the doctor's statement to the physical therapist (?) about pushing wheelchairs and the qualifications thereof. Just really great character building, and I can't wait to see more! Thank you, sir!
The last two pages played out a bit differently to the way I thought that they would. Looking at the pieces of metal attached to Logan's forearms I was expecting to see the doctor disembowelled on the floor and a shocked and traumatised Logan. I prefer the way this is playing out. More layers than if it went the most obvious route. Looking forward to Monday.
Edited to fix a typo.
