Not only is the art amazing on today's page, but the dialog is so wonderfully ominous. There is so much gravitas to Doom, that Magneto comes across oafish by comparison. Bravo.

Doom is such fun to write. I take my natural pomposity and turn it up to 11.

JB: "I take my natural pomposity and turn it up to 11".
*** Okay, in addition to this being very funny, is this something you often do? I mean, imagine yourself as the characters as you write them. If so, are there some characters that are easy to "act" and some that give you particular difficulty in finding their voices?

I often look for some kind of shared attitudes in the characters I write, but truth to tell it’s often more fun to write characters who are very different from me.

Love seeing Doom and having Magneto know that he is out of his league here. Need to go back and re-read the old stories to see if any hints were left about how Magneto handled his Doom. I figure that Doom would be royally annoyed at Magneto for killing his Richards - that is Dooms right and no one else's after all. Maybe it was covered way back in that story and I'm forgetting.
Doom is basically what many make Batman into - give him time and he'll plan his way to do anything, except Doom has already done that via his original writer/artist when Lee/Kirby had him steal the Silver Surfer's powers. Even if it did look ridiculous. Doom on a surfboard - ugh, just too silly and belonged only in Not Brand Echh imo.

If I was a comic book writer, I think I'd just have Dr Doom in every issue. This is probably one of the reasons WHY I'm not a comic book writer...

John, didn't you once (or twice) say that Sue Storm and Heather Hudson spoke with "your voice" when you were writing them, or something like that?
Regardless, this is simply too much to handle. Wolverine's origin is more than enough, but then we get the return of Phoenix AND Doom in all his menacing glory.
Early in the run, we thought we knew what to expect. Even with Wolverine's origin, we know enough about John's original plans to watch them play out, but with Phoenix and Doom, I don't know what is going on...
And I like it :-)

JB’s “natural” pomposity turned up to 11would have made him a great Pro Wrestler. I always loved the overly-intelligent snobby condescending heels as a kid. Hell, I still do! Did anyone SEE Becky Lynch last night!!??😍😍😍

I do really love the scar tissue JB puts under Doom's eyes.
With those large eyeholes and the "eyebrow mantle" over them, Doom's face is incredibly expressive for someone whose face is completely covered by steel. In contrast it's usually very hard to make Iron Man's face expressive if the artist doesn't magically curve the eye and mouth slots. (I should add Spider-Man too, but I'm so use to his mask's eyes growing and shrinking to indicate surprise or shock, that it seems natural to me in the way Iron Man's does not.)
I was initially surprised that the second doctor thinks Wolverine is such a weapon that it will give Canada a leading role in a world where Thor, the FF, Dr Doom, etc. is out there. But then I remember that this time period should be "before" Marvel Time - FF, Doom, Thor, etc. haven't appeared yet.

Chris's comment reminds me - in the ELSEWHEN-verse, did the LOST GENERATION characters "happen"?
