Manhattan DA Bragg sent a letter to House Republicans & didn't hold back. He wrote, “What neither Mr. Trump nor Congress may do is interfere with the ordinary course of proceedings in New York State.”
He also added, “As Committee Chairmen, you could use the stature of your office to denounce these attacks and urge respect for the fairness of our justice system and for the work of the impartial grand jury.”
He probably sent a similar letter to his counterpart in Florida.

I definitely keep flashing on the fact that Hitler's stint in prison generated Mein Kampf and served as his origin story and real flashpoint for his rise to power while his nation decided whether it wanted to trade-in democracy for socialism or for fascism. But thankfully, there's a lot of specific differences here, the two major ones being that:- Trump has already held the Presidency so the general electorate is clear on exactly how that would go, and
- Hitler was a young man and Trump (if he does serve any time) is old and obese, so the likelihood that he comes out of this capable of running an energetic campaign is pretty low - and it's the energy he brought to his 2016 rallies that really got his base motivated

I think this indictment will all but guarantee he gets a second term. I don't know who the DA was taking orders from but turning Trump into a martyr was a huge mistake.

The ex-prez will be a 'martyr' only to his shrinking base (Did you see his recent rally?) certainly, but to most of the country he's a criminal. This indictment should send a long awaited message that NO ONE is above the law.
Also, targeting a judge is not a good look. I wouldn't be surprised if a gag order is issued. Difficult task for the two-time impeached guy.

And Nancy Pelosi, for the tweet she put out and is catching hell for about Trump having to 'prove his innocence'. It's too early for victory dances especially with the looming martyrdom-complex that a guilty (or not guilty) verdict could create.
ETA: Not martyrdom necessarily for Trump, but against the impression that the urge to prosecute is politically motivated

It’s bizarre that the party that explicitly ran on a platform of politically motivated investigations is now crying over their perception that a criminal investigation is politically motivated.

Trump isn't a martyr, he's a low life. I hope the other cases move forward and he gets what's coming to him for election fraud, Jan 6 and rape. He's the biggest criminal the country has ever known and not indicting and/or prosecuting him because of his title is not an option. No matter who you are, if you commit crimes, you should be punished.
In CA a local councilman was just found guilty of fraud. He's going to prison. He's a Democrat. I'm a Democrat. I'm happy he was caught and he's going down. The law should be applied to everyone, not only those without title or privilege.
30+ counts means more than Stormy Daniels.

I don’t see how the indictment catapults Trump to a second term. If the indictment is the rocket fuel needed to guarantee a second term then why is he and all of his supporters fighting against these cases so much?

None of this happens in a vacuum. It all depends upon who else runs (in both parties) and if there are other external forces at play at the time of the election, like there was in '08 with the financial crisis for Obama and there was in '16 with Covid for Biden. Too many unknown factors between now and then to make any kind of credible call. Not a sexy prediction, but just call me Nate Silver :)
