my wife and I had that conversation yesterday Jason - all the things around us that bear the Queen's head will slowly start to change - new money, stamps, passports - so much. Really hard to come to terms with such a monumental change.

Now let’s see the new King set aside the pomp and pageantry of a traditional coronation, and order all that money directed to where it is most needed. (Elizabeth’s coronation cost over forty million adjusted pounds.)

Oh I highly doubt that will happen. There will be a massive funeral and then a massive coronation - bringing the country together and all that.

End of an era. Sad to see her go.

There was a news piece showing the Queen up and about to meet the new PM just two days prior. That is a real sense of duty!

Long live King Charles III!
He shared his Mum with the world. I hope people will respect the role he has and can play, and wish him only well.

Apparently her face will stay on the notes for a good while -- the BBC says:
"The Royal Mint won't say how or when it will start issuing coins with King Charles III's head on them, but it's likely that the Queen's coins will remain in circulation for many years, and that the process to replace them will be a gradual one." (link below)
I think I had a sixpence in my coin collection as a child with George V's head on it. One of the quirk's of QEII's reign was that we went through decimalisation (before I was born, I might add), meaning that the Royal Mint changed everything in one fell swoop so that every coin bore her head alone.
Five years from now, it's likely there'll still be lots of notes and coin bearing her likeness.

Related piece of trivia I heard today: Elizabeth’s first and last Prime Ministers were born 101 years apart!

When the Queen met Marilyn Monroe back in 1956 they were both the same age.

Damn, I now realise Liz Truss is the first PM who is younger than I am. Ouch.

One of my fellow Chinese teachers came up to me to talk about how London Bridge had fallen in England. She had seen something about the bridge falling and was concerned. She was a bit embarrassed when I explained to her what the term actually meant in this context.

Oh my gosh, I never considered Passports. I just renewed mine last month as well. I guess I'll be doing so again. Though that makes me think, don't the Red post boxes have that on them too? There's probably a lot out there that's been taken for granted for so long. It's as if we all just thought she was gonna live forever. And now I'm even more sad that she couldn't. As so much is gonna be a changing.
