One of the best inking jobs I've ever seen was Wally Wood inking Don Heck on the Iron Man story in TALES OF SUSPENSE #71. This is exactly what you want from an inker--make the pencils look good without overwhelming them. I sort of like Heck and sort of hate him. He could be very messy or otherwise lacking--but Wood made these pages look beautiful...and still look like Heck! The very best Heck!

Oops! I guess Wally Wood inked Don Heck over on a very few (3?) issues of AVENGERS as well. Well, good! They look great together! (Of course, Wood ALWAYS made the people he inked look great!)

A note on that Kyle Baker inking Byrne page: I remember it looked a bit washed out in the printed copy, but this page of original artwork looks absolutely beautiful! I can just imagine Baker feeling really proud of finishing it that well. I guess the printing of the period just wasn't up for reproducing those lines properly!

Wally Wood is on a very short list when it comes to his comicbook art peers.
Here are the artists he inked for Marvel post-FF #1 (excluding his own pencils) -

Here's a bit of a weird one. I grew up on Curt Swan's SUPERMAN and ACTION COMICS, and his most regular inker at the time was Frank Chairamonte. He seemed to do a good enough job, and he certainly didn't ruin things. But I didn't really get a sense of his style like I did with Janson, Austin, Giordano, and others.
He inked Neal Adams in the very first Killraven story, in AMAZING ADVENTURES #18. And it looks pretty good! (And also Howard Chaykin in the second half of the issue, which didn't look great, but I understand those pages were drawn overnight or so.) And I don't think it was because Adams was impervious to bad inkers--I've seen some of his work if not ruined then at least lessened.

The original 1970's MS. MARVEL series is a smorgasbord of one-time (or a few times) art pairings! Between the covers and the interiors, we probably could have twenty entries for this topic! Aside from the one-shots, we see Jim Mooney inked by Joe Sinnott for a few issues and also the very fresh-feeling Dave Cockrum covers inked by Terry Austin!
While Tom Palmer inked John Buscema dozens and dozens of times, I don't recall Palmer inking brother Sal...except for the cover and interiors of MS. MARVEL #10. Nice work!

there have been many debates over who was the best inker for Jack Kirby. it was for only one issue but i have always liked the look of Silver Surfer #18 with Herb Trimpe.

Ah, that one!When DC screwed up the schedule and made it impossible for me to continue on THE UNTOLD LEGEND OF THE BATMAN*, The Power That Were announced that Jim Aparo had been brought in to ink my “very loose” pencils. Unfortunately for maintaining that bit of misdirection, Terry Austin had been assigned to ink that job, and had already been sent several pages of the pencils—which he noted were every bit as tight (meaning VERY) as what I’d given him on X-MEN. sigh __ * When I agreed to take on the assignment I told DC I had a three month window into which I could fit it. By the end of the three months they’d sent me the script only for the first issue. The window closed.

Wow. Wood inking Gene Colan is odd - Colan is THE comics master of sfumato, and Wood's line and sense of form is about as concrete and defined as it gets. Not sure if it's a successful pairing but it's an interesting exercise.
