What a great thread's this been. Myself, I've been playing a game, looking at the images first and then trying to guess the pairing. The Wrightson inks over Neal's pencils I'd never have guessed. But now that I know it can't un-see it.
I'd like to submit another one, and it's a pairing I didn't think would work but it sure as heck worked for me: Kurt Schaffenberger inked by Alfredo Alcala in the World of Smallville miniseries. Who ever thought to bring these two talents together, with their very different styles, my hats off to you.

I LOVE that Schaffenberger/Alacala spalsh - though the shading on the Earth is pretty unique.

Hah, do you mean the cross hatching used to depict Earth's terminator? Now I just noticed it. It's very ... Schaffenberg-ian. I routinely accept it for most comics artist's depiction of the moon's shading though, for some reason.

Austin over Simonson on that X-Men Teen Titans crossover from circa 1982. Sure, it wasn't Byrne / Austin but a nice substitute one-off after the dream X-Men team stopped.

Klaus Janson over Carmine Infantino on Daredevil in 1977. Lovely KJ details over Infantino’s sometimes sketchier 70s pencils.

I've mentioned it on this forum multiple times over the years, but a huge pairing for me was Austin over Infantino on a few issues of Star Wars. I loved the crispness of his lines and his machine-tooled crosshatching, which is particularly well reproduced in the Dark Horse reprint volumes of the early 2000s. No slight on Carlos Garzon or any of the other excellent inkers on Infantino's run, but the art really became something extra-special in Austin's hands.

I love Carmine Infantino and I think Rudy Nebres is a terrific artist but I'm usually not that fond of him as an inker. I think the combination of the two for Star Wars Annual #2 looks great.

I will always have a soft spot for Marvel Team-Up #82-84 and Steve Leialoha inking penciller Sal Buscema. Sal's work never looked better.

Goodness, yes! That four issue story is one of the few that I have held onto through the years. Beautiful stuff!

Also, Curt Swan inked by Al Williamson was a great pairing somewhere around Superman 410 for about 7 issues.
