          Seems to be my new normal. Awake at 3 most mornings. Read or stooge around on the web for an hour. Then, happily, back to sleep until 7 or so.

          I always felt that Mantlo's writing seemed to be aimed at younger readers. I didn't mind it when I was younger but 'grew out of it' as I got older, finding more enjoyment in Frank's gritty approach on DD or JB's FF (which had a 'scientific' flavour that I loved).
