Sekowski had a rep for being fast. He tended to turn in jobs well before deadline. Apparently, an editor (don't recall which or even if said editor was named in the story) said to him upon receiving some pages (PP), "Your stuff looks a little rushed. Your work would look so much better if you took a little extra time on it." So Sekowski, on his next job for that editor, finished his work in the same amount of time and sat on it until the day before deadline. Inspecting the new pages the editor allegedly said "That's so much better. See what you can do when you take your time?".Does this story ring any bells with you. Chief? Or do you have - or know of - any similar tales? ••• There are loads of stories likely that! One of my favorites involves a Walt Simonson THOR cover, which showed the Thunder God having just had the crap beaten out of him. One of the Higher Ups (let’s not name names since this is second hand) declared Thor didn’t look “handsome” enough and ordered the cover redone. Mark Gruenwald, the editor on THOR, took the piece to John Romita, and got him to redraw the face—on overlay! When the finished book came thru the office the Original Higher Up was out, so Gruenie peeled off the patch and got a Less Higher Up to sign off on it. When the published issue came in from the printer the OHU brought a copy into Mark’s office, declaring “See? Doesn’t that look better?”
