Here's a classic! The printed one is credited to John Buscema inked by Sal Buscema, and I'm guessing that's the same for the unused one. It's very nice, but everybody is small, so the re-do makes sense.

I like the earlier cover because: Kirby machines and crackle! I'm wondering if Kirby or Sinnott had a hand in it? The figures look very Buscema though.
Silver Surfer is one comic I never owned even one original issue of in any condition. I had a chance to buy #1 once and missed it. :^(

Not that historic, but here are two versions of the same Spider-Man vs. Firelord cover, both by Ron Frenz, with the published one inked by Joe Rubinstein. This might be the first time here that both covers seem equal to me, though I'm not sure we need to see the Spider Sense lines in the original. (Sort of a Duh!)

The published cover is more action-packed, but the
unpublished is more dramatic. And I love it! I'd love to
have that hanging on my wall.

Curious layout on that unused Spider-Man cover. With all the cover dress in place it would have looked like our hero was supporting himself on the UPC box.

It's described and signed in what looks like 2015 at the bottom. Maybe the logo was added then?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of Frenz’s pencils before. That unused cover is stunning. I’d always liked his work and thought he was undersumg; now I’m also wondering if he was poorly served by the inkers he was paired with.

No offense intended as Joe Rubenstein is a great inker and the final cover is his usual clean and elegant work. Just one of those alchemical things that happens in some pairings that makes them extra, and misses in others, for reasons that are elusive..

It seems that there were a number of attempts by Art Adams to do a cover for LONGSHOT #1. They're all fantastic! I can't quite see why any of these would be replaced.
