I was also a Marvel kid, and I have to admit that when JB moved to DC, I didn't move along with him. But by the late 90s I was an actual adult earning an income, so I was willing to branch out more. GENERATIONS was an easy sell for me because it was completely self-contained, and I just love the way he draws Batman.

I've read Generations many times and it has seemed fresh each time I've read it. Its central concept is quite ingenious and the execution is well done (not to mention a whole lot of fun).

25 years ago? Where has the time gone? The series is among my favorites of Byrne's, especially the first two. It seemed so fresh, but harkened back to the old Silver Age Imaginary Stories at the same time. It could have gone on and on and on for me.

Same, though as much as I love JB's "contemporary" Batman,
I really get a kick out of books like GENERATIONS and
BATMAN/CAPTAIN AMERICA where he channels Dick Sprang and (I
suspect) Jerry Robinson.

While I enjoyed all of JB's GENERATIONS work, that first series is easily my favorite... Unless we're also counting BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA, which may be the best single issue superhero comic book I've ever read.

Also same. There are other artists that can mimic other people's styles, but JB has a unique talent for doing it while keeping elements of his own style at the same time. I remember his commission of Dark Knight Batman in Frank Miller's style, and it made me long for a GENERATIONS chapter drawn like that.

A few years ago I cut up some of my comp copies of G1 and G2, and reassembled them with the chapters in chronological order. Made a nice “omnibus”.

I went ahead and eBay'd myself a full 12-issue set of
GENERATIONS 3 for about thirty bucks. Each issue is VF to
NM, too!
