Update on this:

I happened to look on my blocked user list and noticed a buyer with an ID that I didn't recognise (and an absence of the original offender's ID).

You guessed it. The guy that tried to scam me has set himself up with a new ID (of which Ebay are obviously aware, because both are linked - which is why his new ID is automatically blocked).

But the kicker is - he's advertising the book that I sold him (and the quality of which complained about) as being in pristine condition!

My rule after being on eBay for nearly 20 years is to only use it to buy, not
sell, and even then, only if what I want to buy isn’t available anywhere else.
Even the Amazon Marketplace is better than eBay, fake reviews and all.

Unless you have infinite patience, there are just too many ways for eBay
buyers to make having your teeth extracted with pliers vastly preferable to
selling anything on there - and most of the time it’s not actual “scammers”
as such, it’s just ordinary inconsiderate folk doing what they do best.

I’ve a ton of great stuff in near perfect condition that I’d love to sell to
someone who’d appreciate it. But it won’t be on eBay.

I think the real eye-opener for me is that eBay have shown little to no interest in penalising those who are obvious fraudsters.
