I’m not sure if it’s that cut and dried regarding Florida 2000. Does your take also take into account the significant number of voters (particularly black voters) in Florida who were removed from the voting rolls by Florida officials?
A candidate can run a campaign well enough to earn more votes (which Gore did). But if his opponent has “someone” removing votes that would likely go to said candidate…can it really be all their fault?
The Electoral College exists now purely to give Southern states the opportunity to “sneak one by” in close elections. Georgia and Florida (and other southern states) are making voting purges standard procedure for a reason.
