Michael, Trump's gains with black and latino voters suggest that some Biden 2020 voters DID turn into Trump 2024 voters.

**********************

Yes, he had gains, but Kamala still won 80% of the black vote. What sucks is that Biden got 90% in 2020.  And he pretty much held steady at around 45% for Latino voters nationwide.

I am in no way advocating for violence of any kind whatsoever.  That is not how you get back to normal.

But nothing is going to change until President Trump passes away - and that doesn't automatically mean things will improve, either.  It might simply be the end of the beginning of the end.

Democrats simply did not connect even though their fundamental ideology is sound.  They couldn’t message the way Republicans could, did and continue to do so.  That needs a good, hard, long examination both inside and out before we can ever hope to win again on any significant level.

Agree.

The best post-mortem take (and there's a million of them) I read on the subject was an op-ed piece from the NYT that talked about the "Resistance" position the Dems took as default.

"Resistance" can work for a while, and of course you should resist a Trump government and all that implies. But that can't be your sole overall position.

Because it eventually turns you into a conservative.

The whole approach in this era is trying to salvage all the stuff this guy intends to destroy, and people aren't responding to that.

They want change, whatever it is. You should propose equally disruptive change but from the other side to match it.

And that's obviously not what the Dems tried to sell.

With Bernie four years ago, that would've been a different story but they didn't let that happen.

Way too much power, but not completely unchecked.  And nothing will change the fact that he is an incompetent boob.

Mmm.

No one knows what's gonna happen, and even less with such a mentally unbalanced character as Trump.

But, with Musk and Thiel and their ilk working directly with him and manipulating this very easy guy to manipulate this time it could be really different in a much worse way.

I said it before the election and I'm going to say it again now

You vote for Harris and for Democrats at every level or you give Nazis power.

If you stay home because you think "both sides" are just as bad, you give Nazis power.

If you don't want to be bothered with politics at all, you give Nazis power.

But you'd best be sure about this, because when you give Nazis power, there's no changing your mind.  You don't get that power back, not without great cost.  Ask Germany.  Ask Japan.  Ask Italy.

And now we've given Nazis power.  I have no idea if they are going to be able to accomplish everything they want to accomplish, but we no longer have a say in the matter.  It's purely up to them and you can bet they'll do everything they can, and even a few things they can't, to maintain their hold on power.

This is Trump's world now, we just live in it.  He's going to be in office until old age and bad health do him in, and you are going to have him in your face every day for as long as he does live, you will never be free of him.  He will run again in 2028 and win again.

And the sad truth is that all the talk about how "this is not who we are" is pure bullshit.  It is who we are, it's who we've always been, even during the years when New Deal liberal politics supposedly dominated.

This was not a vote for Trump or a vote against any candidate in particular, it was a vote against liberalism itself.  It was a vote against the idea of self-government, a vote that basically said "The American Experiment is a failure.  We want to be ruled over rather than be governed, especially to have a say in that government.  Give us what little bread you can spare and whatever circuses you can dream up, just don't bother me."

We got Trump because we wanted him.  Because a significant number of us are complete and utter assholes.  So fasten your seatbelts, boys and girls, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

There were good people who voted for Trump and they saw the Democrats as being closer to Nazis than the man with a Jewish daughter, grandchildren, and son-in-law, and who was Israel's best friend in his first term.  Nazis don't like Jews, remember?

These voters were worried about the Nazi-like behavior of Kamala and the Democrats--
--Jewish students under attack and living in fear in the big cities and U.S. universities
--restricting the First Amendment
--control of the major news outlets
--threatening gun seizure
--threatening property seizure (of Elon Musk's holdings specifically, after their win)
--packing the Supreme Court (controlling the courts)
--removing the filibuster and enacting other measures to never lose power again

Enough with the Nazi accusations.  Every time someone implies that America is full of Nazis now, he might as well be wearing "Idiot" on his forehead.

Over 13 million less people voted in this election.  The orange one got nearly the same amount of votes as he did in 2020...

Oh, I don't think so.  They're just going to get more and more credible.

You're trying to overcomplicate what is really a simple issue.

Really, it's not that hard.

If true, which I highly doubt, those people are only looking skin-deep. Otherwise?  That’s an absurd statement to make. Kamala got blasted for her support of Israel and the “uncommitted” vote in the tens of thousands in many states support that. If you want to go down the personal route, which you so obviously do, her husband is Jewish and so too are her step-children. And, seriously, every American president since 1947 has been “Israel’s best friend”. Trump isn’t special or a one-off on that. America has been subsidizing Israel for decades. On a grand scale, the Dems shut out any Palestinian voice during their convention.  The idea that anyone on any planet would see the Dems “as being closer to Nazis” than Trump who has regularly played with racist, misogynistic, and homophobic rants to bait and encourage his base is beyond me.

Yeah, I don't recall Kamala ever saying "they're poisoning the blood of our country".

That's straight out of the Nazi playbook.

Or?  Trump saying “There are some very fine people on both sides” in response to Charlottesville where many were chanting “blood and soil” while carrying torches, which is a key slogan of Nazi ideology.  Trump should have denounced that outright…but he never did.

I also don’t see the Proud Boys, a notorious anti-Semitic group, rallying around the Dems.  It wasn’t like he told them to “Stand back and stand by” in a debate or anything. I didn’t see Confederate flags waving at Kamala rallies.  I don’t see or hear about White Supremacists liming up to support Dems in general or Kamala specifically, but I sure do Trump.  Weird, right?  I mean, whatever is he doing that would give them a reason to think he’s on their side?  Heavy sarcasm implied if you can’t read that for what it is.

And every time someone says “It can’t happen here” is short sighted, lacking in cognitive skills, bereft of historical knowledge and ultimately fucking stupid.
