JB:

Technically two.

More on that later.

(Ain’t I a stinker?)

Sheesh!  Now that's how you do a cliffhanger.

I'm 60 (turning 61 this summer) and had to confront the possibility of enforced retirement.
See, I'm a federal employee. Our office is facing the likelihood of a reduction in force (RIF), though some estimate that we hit our numbers with those who took the Deferred Resignation Plan; if so, we might not have one.
Even so, I'm about three to four years from being ready to leave.
I'll likely need to find something to make up for lost income but I'm not worried about the prospect--not yet.
So retirement has been very much on my mind this year. I hope to have a transition into this stage of my life that's as peaceful and enjoyable as JB's seems to be. (And I hope your retirement continues to be enjoyable, JB!)

I'm semi-retired, I work about 15 hours a week at a place I like, though the commute is a bit of a pain.  I do it because I can't make it on SS alone, but that's okay, even I get stir crazy after a while.  This way I at least have an excuse to get out of the house three times a week, and the walk is good for me.

In thinking about what JB said, I am reminded of how the great Charles Schulz worked pretty much until he died, and how he criticized Bill Watterson for ending Calvin & Hobbes, but I understand that Mr. Schulz believed you simply worked until you dropped.  Up to him, I guess, but the sad truth is that Peanuts had really deteriorated in the last fifteen or so years of its run.  Calvin never jumped the shark, and in my opinion, neither did JB.  Hope he enjoys his retirement!

My 'golden age' of Peanuts was about mid-60s through the end of the 70s. Reading the 'Complete Peanuts' reprints some years ago, it was weird that it simply wasn't funny starting on 1/1/80. And even the 'revered' last five years weren't that great.
