Publish yesterday in The Washington Post.

It's behind a paywall.

Also, I know that it's been discussed on this board, but could not find the thread using the Search tool.

Dick Giordano gave me a copy of the style guide when I started on Superman. Not because I was expected to follow it. Dick just knew how much I appreciated Garcia Lopez’s art.

In a way it made me sad. It was another example of a growing attitude in the industry. “Look at this great stuff! Let’s not do this!”

Mentioned back in May in the earlier JLG-L thread, but maybe timely as an addendum to James' post - orders for the hardback reprint of the DC Style Guide are now open :

While it says it's currently only available in the US & Canada, Forbidden Planet in the UK has it up for pre-order as well -

Due for publication sometime mid-September onwards.

Thanks for the addendum, Phil!
I'm in OZ, so hopefully I can grab a copy from FP.
Fingers crossed.

“I feel that I was only inheriting all the artists’ work that came before me. I had a great responsibility to honor all the great artists that contributed to developing the characters,” García-López says.

And then he decided to draw it better than everyone. Why? Because he could.

To be fair, until you and George and Frank came over to DC in the mid 80s, DC had a lot of comics with gorgeous covers, but drek inside.  It was nice wrapping, but nothing in the package.  We are fortunate at least that people like Dick Giordano and Jenette Khan saw they had a problem, and started a concerted effort to bring in new and better talent.

Thanks, Daniel - really interesting read, and I especially note the editorial comment that the Style Guide 'illustrates what superheroes once were and could be again'

Yes please to 'could be again'.

JLGL strikes me as the DC counterpart to John Romita.
