Magneto was undoubtedly a villain deserving a splash page. Love JB's rendering, and also Dave Cockrum's from #104:

If that page came back to me, I probably sold it for under $100.

The original art market seems to have gone crazy. The most I ever paid was $5000 for the last page of FF 5, Kirby and Sinnott. That was about 25 years ago.

For some reason I had it in my head that the first page was referred to as the splash page because you were "jumping in" to the story. So what is the real reason that they are they called "splash" pages?

Because they’re splashy!

Tho to add to the confusion, if the first page has several pictures it’s called a “multi-panel splash”!

So the first page is always a splash page, but other pages can be splash pages too, as long as they are full page panels?

It's kind of weird finding out that something you've always "known" you actually didn't know at all.

Speaking of learning, I always thought that issue of Secret Wars was a weird ending and that something had to have been left out. I guess confusing the readers was easier than admitting one was wrong.

Although I like the idea of an issue of "What The --?!" as they re-imagine popular moments in the same way:

Alien runs in "Hey everyone, Dark Phoenix just shot herself in the head!"

Hellfire goon runs in "Hey everyone, Wolverine is in the sewer and he's pissed off!"

Batman runs into room "Hey everyone, I just saw the Flash die!"

I’ve occasionally heard the first page called THE splash, while interior pages are called “full page splash(es)”, tho that strikes me as a bit redundant.
