Finding Bluesky to very suiccesfully be filling the Twitter space for me and I am about ready to delete my Twitter account.
A social media that shows you posts from people you want it to in chronological order without ads? YES, PLEASE.
Apparentlly the rush to Bluesky is making Suckerbergh concerned for Threads, enough that they've made mods.
I honestly think that if handled properly Bluesky could replace insta, twitter and facebook. (It probably WON'T and the devs can and probably will screw it up as is the nature of an enshittified internet but I'll remain hopeful.) I'm @dangillotte.bsky.social and mostly follow funny people, a few lefties and friends.

You know, social media has been around for a while now. We keep creating and migrating to new platforms every so often, and we're not getting any smarter or more informed, and we're not talking to each other more (or any more). Maybe it's time to admit the technology isn't the problem.

No Bluesky. No Threads. No Telegram.
I didn't have enough time in the day to keep track of accounts on the apps created up to, say, when TikTok rose to prominence, let alone jump on every new platform. The redundancy in these apps is alarming in that no one seems to recognize that a lot of them serve the same. damn. purpose. I can't imagine having to sort through each and every notification on my cellphone for a dozen or more messaging apps.
Meanwhile, longform forums like message boards and webboards slide into obscurity.

Ron and Michael, I see your points and don't disagree. I don't allow any notifications on my devices for example.
Ron, I think there are similarities in how the platforms shift to make communication worse and less pleasurable. They are driven for max engagement whether the engagement is positive or negative, BUT the algorithim finds that people engage MORE with negative stuff and so it feeds people MORE negative stuff. On top of that the adverts that get served up become more pernicious and make the apps less fun and less helpful.

I’m on everything. I find it very easy to drown out the noise, no matter where I am in life.

I’m on Facebook &, occasionally now, Twitter. Nothing else (well, I’m here as well).
I’ve not figured out the different reasons to be on different platforms, so never joined Insta for example. & my Twitter usage has dropped markedly recently as it is unbelievably toxic & clearly A) pushes the views of a certain bloke B) seems to be dominated by drop ship adverts & porn/violent posts, which the bloke claims proliferate because people engage with them. I don’t ever remember asking Twitter to show me porn, or people getting beheaded for that matter. Yet there they are.
So Facebook is where I camp.

I joined Bluesky about a week or two ago. I like it. I left Twitter shortly after the current owner bought it. I'm glad to be reconnected and interacting with the people I've missed.

The only social media site I use is Facebook. And I like it that way.

I've been on Bluesky a while, but it's not until very recently it's taken off.

From what I understand, isn't the reason its taking off now is because people are abandoning ship on X for it?

The only Blue Sky I’ve even heard of is the Allman Brothers song.
