I was there at Halloween and had Ghostbusters in the back of my mind as I wandered around. Our hotel was close to Lincoln Centre and (hand-in-hand) the West side of Central Park.
I've been to NYC several times, so didn't feel obligated to visit the usual landmarks, but I would say even if it's your first time, it's worth checking out some of the newer things like Hudson Yards and the Westfield WTC shopping mall, the latter of which feels like something from Logan's Run, looking stunning both inside and out. If tall buildings are your thing, there are a load of new skyscrapers with viewing decks, such as The Edge at Hudson Yards or Summit One Vanderbilt on 42nd Street.
As a comics fan, I would recommend poking your nose into the lobby of the "Daily Planet" on 42nd Street (the Daily News Building in reality).
On my last visit I took in a performance from a jazz quartet at Arthur's Tavern in the West Village, which was well worth it.
I've been to the Midtown Comics on Fulton St, which is sort of between the financial district and Chinatown, and it was pretty good -- ultiamtely just a comics shop not unlike many others.
