I was tickled to come across this online. (A little less tickled that someone colored it and nuked the entire point of the grey tones). The cosplayer used the commission to further define the details of his costume machinery.

"I guess the fans were just so eager to have him back, they were ready to accept anything."

--

I was one of them. I remember noticing the contradiction, but I shrugged it off. Just imagine if that was published in the age of 40+ year old Comic Book Guy and the Internet!

Also provided a built-in reason for why Heather didn't think something was amiss. She was just happy to have him back just like the fans.

Nice page, Vinny!
Man, the composition...the camera angle is everything!

At only 11 years old in April 1984, I bought ALPHA FLIGHT #12 right off the rack and instantly thought it was a classic.  Certainly one of the "heaviest" comic stories I'd ever read, up to the point.

Nothing but warm nostalgia... for such a grim ending!

Good god Vinny. That’s probably my favorite of all the “toned”
commissions. Just beautiful.

Those grey tone commissions are so special.

So easy to imagine the internet exploding over something like this—and then accusing me of changing my plans when I did the reveal.

I'm sure I'm misremembering this but I always think of
Guardian's death and Sue Richards' miscarriage in FF as
happening pretty close together. Either way, they're a pair
of gut-punches that I feel like I never quite recovered
from.

Thanks a lot, JB.
