Why didn't Marvel or DC (or Archie?) buy or lease RICHIE RICH, CASPER, et al after Harvey went out of business? That left a big void in the industry.

Boy - that’s the day Atlas shrugged at least! Dropping early readers was like spending the rent money on beer.

I still wish we had gotten a CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN run helmed by JB.
JB's inclusion of Doctor Druid, Makkari, Namora, Ulysses Bloodstone and Zawadi in MARVEL: THE LOST GENERATION also whet my appetite for a MONSTER HUNTERS series drawn and written by him.

We could do a whole thread on a John Byrne Wishlist! (Of course, he probably worked on more major series than anyone else!) The three series I most would have liked to have seen written and illustrated by JB are--
CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN DEFENDERS THOR

Was Walt Simonson ever lined up to do a writing/drawing run on WONDER WOMAN?

Taking my info from the Wiki page, so caveat emptor: Marvel did get pretty far along in taking on the Harvey properties in the early 80s, but the Harvey brothers pulled out of the deal, for reasons that seemed vague to me.
I was surprised to learn that many of the Harvey characters were licensed by Harvey in the first place. They eventually bought out the rights from Fleischer/Famous, but Casper, Little Lulu, and a couple of others originated as animated properties first.

I don't know what the comic scene is like now, but I sure hope it is still possible for creators that are both idiosyncratic and have the potential for popular appeal to get support. I wouldn't want the would-be Chaykins and Simonsons of current and future generations to miss their chance to shine. Then again, there are so many other options for self-expression pulling at someone with those skills these days, maybe it is too much to hope for that they are drawn (sorry) to comics.

Was Walt Simonson ever lined up to do a writing/drawing run on WONDER WOMAN?* Simonson wrote WW #189-194, but the artwork was by Jerry Ordway and P Craig Russell.

And Gil Kane did some work on Teen Titans, one of the first DC comics I read was and issue he drew that was inked by Wally Wood.
Talk about a Dream Team!

I'm not sure why George Perez's run on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA wasn't longer and more of a big deal. I thought that was his dream job and a big coup for DC.

How about THOR written by Walt and drawn by JB?••• Almost. Walt asked me to draw a Thor special he was writing, but when he pitched it to Marvel the assistant editor said they’d have to “run it by marketing”. And I stepped away.
