I was just reading a MOON KNIGHT anthology with one-off work by a bunch of different creators, and some of it sparked a thought--

Why has Howard Chaykin never worked on MOON KNIGHT?  It seems like something right up his alley--Marc Spector is Jewish and Chaykin's heroes are often authentically Jewish, Steven Grant and his classic girlfriend Marlene have that adult kind of give-and-take relationship that Chaykin writes well, and I can fully imagine a Moon Knight image in Chaykin's style and it would be great!

And this train of thought led me to other possibilities I have thought of before--

Why did we never get a John Byrne stint on DEFENDERS?  Byrne did fantastic runs on NAMOR and HULK, but HULK was cut short.  Byrne's DR. STRANGE in a guest star role is always wonderful to look at and it's a shame there was never anything longer.  And, of course, the Defenders have a wide range of other characters that could come in and out--and Byrne draws EVERYBODY better than just about anybody!

Some shorter thoughts--

Bob Layton on METAL MEN--Layton's style is shiny and funny, perfect for the Metal Men!

Chris Claremont writing WONDER WOMAN--Isn't Claremont considered a great writer for female characters?  Strange he never worked on THE female character.

Paul Gulacy on some sort of mix of NICK FURY, SHANG CHI, and/or BLACK WIDOW!  He did great work on the latter two, it would have been wonderful to see a Fury solo run or some team up with the others.

P. Craig Russell on THOR or DR. STRANGE for an extended run--I know he did some Strange, but I'm surprised there wasn't a lot more.

SPIDER-WOMAN is a personal favorite, and so is Steve Gerber.  Gerber was known for writing "lost" characters, people who felt they were on the outside--just like Jessica Drew!  And he started on DAREDEVIL and SHANNA, and Spider-Woman is somewhere in between.  Why no Gerber stint on SPIDER-WOMAN?

If anyone has any insight on any of these, please share.
I may have missed some of these pairings through the decades.  If so, please enlighten me!
If you want to add any other (seeming) no-brainers, please do so!  Not just creative pairings, but plot developments that never happened too.

--------------------------------

He did a Superman/Wonder Woman prestige mini during the Sovereign Seven era at DC. As one might expect from Claremont and WW, there was a lot of psychosexual subtext.

1) A Frank Miller MOON KNIGHT came to mind first of all (seemed a bit obvious after TDK). Grimm and gritty paired with a multi-millionaire lifestyle.

2) Alan Davis did well with his underrated CLANDESTINE series. I could see him breathing new life into ALPHA FLIGHT, especially the dynamic between team members.

3) Bill Sienkiewicz on CONAN. He could handle the grandeur and the blood!
