It seems Impossible to me that anyone would write this article in 2025 and not mention X-Men Elsewhen. It’s so egregious, it’s almost like the omission was the point!

Why do you torture yourself, JB, by looking up this kind of thing?

In the early days, before the internet, I had very little access to what was being written about myself and my work. And on those occasions when I would see something, and very often find it riddled with falsehoods, I would shrug it off. People were smart enough to filter out the tripe, I figured. Except sometimes not, and that tripe would get folded permanently into the whole. With the arrival of the internet I found I not only had to be more alert, but I had to respond more often. It might not really make a difference in the minds of those whose biases were already carved in stone, but at least I could make sure the truth was out there.

Looking at the pictures now, it strikes me how excellent and vibrant they look!
One detail I have never thought of before is the colouring of Cyclops just before (spoiler alert) Jean kills herself. Those colours are lighter than the ordinary colours of Cyclops, as if they point out this moment as special.
John, did you have any say in this colouring decision? What did you think of the result?

I had close to zero input on color. With Glynis, didn’t need any!

I figured the lighter blue was because of a glow.

Thanks for answering John!
I get the feeling that Scott, in his mind, kind of separates from the reality he sees, because it's so horrible. He fades, ghostlike.

Jean blasts Scott with what Claremont describes as a "telekinetic force bolt" and he remains is a stasis field of sorts till Jean dies. While inside the field, Scott is rendered with light inking and colored more lightly than usual. It makes for a sharp antithesis in the panel Jean caresses his cheek.

In the cheek picture, all the black around them, as if they were isolated from everything else. Just the two of them.

In the early days, before the internet,......======= JB, have you ever tried to contact any of the folks that write these kinds of articles? I suspect most would fall out of their chair if you did, and I'd be curious to know how many suddenly become apologetic.
