In my current home for 18 years, and just this past week my wife has done little spruce-ups, e.g., new picture frames, vases, table cloth for the dining room, assorted tchotchkes, not that anything was bad or broken -- simply for a bit of a new, fresh look.
You do anything like that, JB?

As a pathological accumulator, I am constantly “refreshing” the contents of my house.

Does it still feel "new" to you?

I guess that's one of the few reckonings where having the years seem shorter provides some kind of benefit!

For our house, our family has been here 35 years in December 2025.

I've been in my current house 13 years. The house I grew up in, I lived in for 12 years... Which is weird!

I'm not sure how much this will mean to anyone here, but I own a house in Toronto.
I'll say it again, I own a house in Toronto.
If you're reading this and are confused about why I'd emphasize that point, then permit me to explain it as this: my wife and I both have six figure incomes in education with a killer pension (probably the best pension in the world), and if we tried to buy a house in Toronto in 2025, it would be tight. We bought the house we live in back in 2011. Within two years, it had nearly doubled in value because Toronto real estate is broken.
We renovated the house three years ago, upgrading in size from a one and a half (basically a bungalow with a very limited upstairs; two bedrooms, two tiny closets, and that's it) to a full sized upstairs with a main bathroom. Our upgraded size is still smaller than JB's downgraded house size. No complaints from me though - I'm happy with our reno.

Time is odd. I've been in my current house now, post divorce, for 18 years, which I swear seems shorter than the time in my "marriage" house, yet I was only there 11 years! Maybe that says something about the marriage :-)

I hear you. I lived in London and the housing market was crazy back in the late 1990s, then moved to Canada in the early 2010s, when I knew the housing market in Vancouver was nuts and I suppose Toronto was not far behind. Then, during Covid, the housing market went nuts in the major urban parts of Nova Scotia. I can't get away from it!
I sometimes (often) wonder about our monetary system.
