The see-thru nature of the dress has been….. enhanced.

Good eye JB.

This is where I pulled the original image from: https://wwd.com/pop-culture/celebrity-news/galler y/variety-power-of-women-2025-style-photos-1238329754/variet ys-2025-power-of-women-los-angeles-presented-by-lifetime-arr ivals-8/

I saved it to my desktop, used Microsoft Photo to convert it from a .webp to a .jpg, and cropped it down to 600 pixels wide.

Here is the image out on Getty: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/sy dney-sweeney-at-varietys-2025-power-of-women-los-angeles-new s-photo/2243570160

All 3 images show her ample nacelles, but there are slight differences between all 3 as well, and who knows what processing the photographer did and if Getty made any adjustments.

I read yesterday that some kind of corset was used to pull
in her waist.
When my wife was younger i often saw her resemblence
facially in some J.B. drawn characters in the early 80's.

This thread seems to have strayed some way from my original comment.

Looking at that chain mail dress helps me understand how a live-action version of Captain America’s uniform should work.

(Long after my association with the character, artists suddenly seemed to forget that what Kirby was drawing was a cloth shirt OVER chain mail.)

I believe the over-rendered scale mail started with John Cassaday.

As for Sydney Sweeney, yes, I can see the Wood connection in both her appearance and the choice of wardrobe. It looks like something straight out of one of his EC science fiction stories.

Kevin McGuire was doing it back in the early 90s.

Yes, I had forgotten about CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY.  Cassady was the one who made them thicker to where they looked like (as I've seen them described) "coins" or "feathers."

Maguire's version was more what we were accustomed to, only with more detail.  It might be what actually started the drift toward making the mail on the outside.
