Total gut punch.  LOVED his work, the first Marvel issues I ever owned or read as a kid were drawn by Sal.

(Reported on his birthday... apparently news is making the rounds that he died this past Friday.) :(

Very sorry to hear this. He was as reliable to do demonstrably good work everywhere he went as anybody ever was.

Sand news to hear this. I loved his work and he was such a nice guy. I was privileged to have him do a few pieces for me. Everything comes to an end but it's still difficult. Condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad. I've thought for a long time that he was the true workhorse of Marvel, especially during the 70s and 80s.

Oh no. I knew we shared a birthday. I liked his work well enough when I was
a kid. Never one of the “flashy” guys but enjoyable. It wasn’t until adulthood
that I really grew to appreciate his work and he’s become one of my
favorites. Hate to hear this.

Though he was never a "top" artist, he never did a bad job. And he definitely influenced other artists. That Sal "punch" was iconic!

To this day, Sal drew the only comic book that ever made me cry... I was only about 7 1/2 years old, and mother was driving me in to grade school one morning (March 1980?).  She'd stopped at a 7-11 along the way and let me pick out the latest INCREDIBLE HULK (issue #248)...

The last 2 pages just totally threw me for a loop, as the Hulk says goodbye to a lifeless Jarella for the final time.  And I sat in the car in tears.  I'm sure my poor mother didn't know what to think.  Some panel examples:

Incredible Hulk, The 1968 series #248 Jun 1980 How Green My Garden Grows

Rest easy, Sal.

Sorry to hear this. I enjoyed his time on INCREDIBLE HULK and SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN.

I loved his work! One of my all time favourites. I've spent countless hours being entertained, thrilled and moved by his work.
I'm saddened to hear of his passing, but what a legacy.

JB, did you ever get to spend any time with Sal or his big brother?
