Circumstances being other than what they were, today is the date, April 17, a Wednesday, that the ship would have completed her maiden voyage.

I’ve noted before that when I was a child in England many people were still talking about the disaster like it was very recent, and when I first saw A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (1958) I was surprised to learn that the whole thing had been 38 years before I was born!

That is impressive. Remarkable that her sister ship the Britannic launched in 1914 and sank in 1915. Ill fated...

There was a particularly dumb conspiracy theory going around some years back. The story was that Titanic’s other sister, the Olympichad been damaged in some sort of collision, and rather than mess around with the insurance companies, White Star Line swapped the name plates and deliberately sank her, while Titanic finished out a normal lifespan under the assumed name.

Sure, because destroying the entire company made much more sense than fighting over insurance.
