…colonoscopy….

•••

I’ve resisted all efforts to convince me to have one. It goes with my “cancer philosophy”. If ever I am diagnosed with the Big C, I won’t do anything about it. Play the cards I am dealt.

I hope you have as restful a night as you can have in the hospital JB, and a smooth recovery.

I’ve had a number of surgeries over the years due to Crohn’s Disease. The
procedures themselves never bothered me, my big issue was with the loss
of freedom. Once I had an end date to work towards I could deal with the
excruciating pain that comes post surgery. If it’s any consolation, that first
night is always the worst.

One time I arrived in, closed the curtain around my bed while I mentally
adjusted to my newfound incarceration. Listening to the other patients
talking, all older gentlemen, I was struck by how unconcerned they were
about how long they would be in.

When I emerged from behind the curtain, my question was to a man, met
with “I don’t know”. I set to work on them and by the end of the week, our
ward resembled a scene from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. If anyone
so much as resembling a doctor set foot inside the door, they were met with
a chorus of “When am I getting out ?” from each and every one of them.

Glad to hear you’re over the worst of it, but remember, hospitals are full of
sick people, you don’t want to catch something, so get a date, work
towards it and get home. Best medicine in the world.
