Yes. And when my great grandparents relocated to England, they settled in Wolverhampton!

Why did Dave object to the Mesmero circus idea? That was a great story I thought!

Evidently he didn’t think so. I don’t know why.

Found more:

“Forgotten First Meeting: Storm is established to have met some of the original X-Men prior to her canonical debut in Giant Size X-Men #1, with memory erasure serving as the explanation for how this encounter wasn't remembered in Ororo's chronological first appearance.”

Nope. When I did this story in HIDDEN YEARS I constructed it so no memory erasure was needed. The X-Men who meet Ororo have plenty of time after what we saw in GSXM1 to “catch up”. The flight back to Westchester would have taken several hours, for instance.

When I did the XHY story I specifically chose Ororo because she most readily served the tale I wished to tell.

Plus you had Cyclops not actually encounter her in X:HY which left only Jean since Hank had already left the team - and there was no opportunity for Jean to comment on meeting Storm within GSXM #1 itself. Honestly you didn't even need to worry about excluding Cyclops, because he had already met Sunfire and Banshee before GSXM#1 and yet he made no reference to already knowing them in the issue, either. Neither did they reference meeting Cyclops, either (though Banshee and Professor X did have such an exchange).

There is an unfortunate substrata of fans that seem to think everything is worked out to the finest detail when a series is begun. The most outrageous example of this was the handful of readers who demanded to know if my taking on Superman was what Seigel and Shuster “intended”!!

This manifests mostly thru those who don’t like retcons since the new information was not mentioned before!

It's funny, because while you were more careful with your retcon than you needed to be, nowadays writers swing too far in the other direction - retcons that directly contradict previous issues with no measure to account for that. Best example might be Wolverine. Now he's some sort of past secret agent that everyone had somehow met over the years before he was in the X-Men - which doesn't jibe with the way they reacted to him on-panel in their published first encounters, particularly Captain America.*

*Chris Claremont started down that road at a point where it was already a contradiction, but it was amusing to see you have a similar scene to his in ELSEWHEN where Cap offers to partner with Wolverine during WWII**. Since ELSEWHEN isn't beholden to future continuity, your version isn't a contradiction, though.

**Didn't you say once that you were planning to have scene somewhere with Cap recognizing Wolverine's voice?

Yes. I wanted to do scene where Cap, hearing Wolverine speak, wheels about and exclaims “Corporal Logan??”
