Heartbroken.

Growing up, I believed what everybody told me about feminism (bad) and Steinem (radical.)  Neither was true.  Steinem was in no way part of the radical wing of the movement, and even if she was, so what?

Her writing was clear and concise, as she came from journalism and not academia, so she didn't write muddy feminist theory - oh, man I have tried to read some feminist and LGBT theory and it's inscrutable.

Her article, "A Bunny's Tale" is a very good (and quite funny) account of her undercover investigation as a bunny at the Playboy Club in the 60s, and her article, the eye-opening "Sex, Lies, and Advertising" shows the stranglehold that advertising has on editorial content of magazines.  One example was Revlon pulling its account from Ms. Magazine as the women on the cover were not wearing makeup.

RIP to one of my heroes.
