That's the hurricane that created the Shinnecock Inlet which permanently severed Fire Island from the rest of Long Island and still remains to this day.

I’ve lived thru at least three hurricanes since I moved to Connecticut. All monsters. It is hard to imagine how anything could have been worse!

We had an extreme weather event a couple of days ago that dumped about 100mm of rain and hailstones baseball-sized or bigger onto our area in Toronto, in the span of something like 6-8 hours. This coming hot on the heels of a massive basement renovation we just had completed to stop our basement from flooding during these kinds of intense storms.

This nor'easter ripping up the coast is notable, here in
Nova Scotia, for *not* hitting us to any great degree.
We're usually a nice, juicy bullseye for them. As for
hurricanes, they are a source of dread even as for north as
this. We *still* show scars from Fiona, four years ago
now. She's even a contributor to our more intense wildfire
seasons - all of the trees ripped up and torn down during
that storm are a great source of fuel for them.

Crazy winds by me here on Long Island from about 8 pm Friday until 12 pm Sunday. I was lucky to get only one big branch fall in a glancing way on our car. Small dent on the hood, but otherwise fine. Whew!
