CNNI was taught in second grade that the sized of various countries and land masses were represented inaccurately on flat maps. Is this really so difficult to comprehend?

I'm a huge map freak, so I have no problem with making things as accurately proportionate as possible. But to do so for the sake of political correctness feels absurd. It's just a fact that the Northern Hemisphere has the vast majority of land mass and population of the world so I could understand NH countries being emphasized on a map - and it shouldn't imply that Southern Hemisphere countries are now "inferior".
Maybe we should start using this view of the globe so that nobody gets offended:

My 7th grade teacher impressed upon us that the only truly accurate map is a globe.

I read in The Guardian that 164 UN countries have just voted in favour of changing world maps so that Africa is depicted in a more accurate (ie much larger) size.
Only one country voted against the resolution: the USA.

Still amazes on these corrected maps of earth is how much further east South America is to North America. So many maps I saw growing up had it directly below.

When I crossed the Pacific in the Navy they had a map that was an "Oceania" view (as you can see on the link JB provided above) displayed on the mess decks and they tracked our progress on it. We sailed from Long Beach, up near Alaska, and finally to Okinawa. I was looking at the map one day and someone came up and said "Why don't we just go straight there?". I tried to explain that a straight line path on a map would take longer than the curved path due to the curvature of the earth. He didn't believe me.

I had a mailman who was a flat earther. I just avoided it. What I do find interesting is the absolutely matter-of-fact ways in which the concept is presented.

I had a grade 5 student who was a flat earther. When I asked him how his parents felt on the topic, he said that his mom also had "questions." Thankfully discussing the topic fell under the curriculum so we spent some time exploring what total nonsense it was.
Edited to add a PS: mom literally pulled her two kids from the school after I spent about 30 minutes teaching my students the importance of being compassionate and kind to those who struggle with their gender identity.
