I don't recall being lost in those early reading days (mid 70s). I did begin to relish seeing those reference asterisks, who knows maybe I had that issue they were alluding to!

Fans are spoiled -- and in a world with AI creations it is only gong to get worse.

There’s also a tendency on the part of some fans to complain if they don’t know everything that’s going on by the end of the first issue (of a multi-issue story).

That seems to spring from the same mentality that complains about exposition, only “We already know this!” morphs into “Why don’t we know this??”

I see this with TV Series all the time. The phrase I hear from people is: “I
can’t get into it…..”
