MOON KNIGHT's original Sienkiewicz run in the Marvel magazines (first HULK, then a MARVEL PREVIEW) was a like a Who's Who of the best inkers!

First, Joe Rubinstein
Second, Bob McLeod
Third, Klaus Janson
Fourth, Sienkiewicz himself
Fifth, Tom Palmer

And it all looked gorgeous!

Janson inked a handful of issues of the first Moon Knight series, back when
Sienkiewicz was in "Neal Adams mode"

******

By Odin’s beard! You’re right! Totally forgot about that.

I remember fans being appalled by Klaus’s inks over my pencils on AVENGERS.

NOT TERRY!!!

I loved it.

Janson, Sinnott and Palmer were all pretty heavy-handed inkers - so I can see why some fans might be unhappy if they thought their favorite pencilers were being buried.

But you don't assign an inker like that to a job and tell him to tone it down, that's not what they're there for.  That's like hiring John Byrne, Walt Simonson or George Perez and asking them to draw something more pedestrian.

Hey!  Help me out here!  Let's make a list of where all the greatest inkers inked John Byrne!  Was he inked by ALL the best?  It doesn't have to be comprehensive, I'd just like to see an example of an issue or run where JB was inked by the best!  I'll start with the list I started this thread with (just off the top of my head; I may have temporarily forgotten some obvious ones)--

Dick Giordano--SUPERMAN
Joe Rubinstein--CAPTAIN AMERICA
Klaus Janson--WOLVERINE
Tom Palmer--SILVER SURFER
Bob McLeod--?
Joe Sinnott--FANTASTIC FOUR
Terry Austin--X-MEN
Bob Wiacek--?
Bob Layton--?
Gene Day--AVENGERS #181
Dan Adkins--?
Dan Green--AVENGERS
Tony DeZuniga--MARVEL TEAM-UP #70 (with THOR)

And did these ever ink JB?
Al Williamson
Neal Adams
Bill Sienkiewicz
Wally Wood
Frank Miller
Mike Mignola
Walt Simonson
Steve Ditko
Jack Kirby (Anything?  Even some obscure con sketch?)

Who else?

Walt inked JB in that AWC Annual. #4, I believe. Also a MARVEL TWO-IN-
ONE cover and the WORLD OF KRYPTON covers.

And one of my favorite pairings.

I think Neal may have inked him on something at Charlton.

If “him” is me, I was not inked by Neal at Charlton or anywhere else.

My memory is playing tricks. I would’ve sworn there was a cover or pinup
somewhere from your earlier days where Neal inked you. Sorry, my mistake.

One of my unfulfilled dreams. Even realizing I would have completely disappeared under Neal’s inks.
