I bought this sketch of Backlash from Brett Booth via Twitter on 8/30. The piece finally arrived. I'm going to talk to his inker, Norm Rapmund, about inking a blueline of this for me.
I picked up a beautiful Thing piece from Paul Pelletier back in May at the Motor City Comic Con. Joe Prado agreed to bring it back to Brazil to ink and presented it to me this past weekend in Baltimore. The detailed line work in the inks, right down to a double line effect on the character's rocky hide resulted in a beautiful figure that I can and have spent some time looking over. Thanks to both of these men for their talent and their friendship!
Ivan Reis' pencils are something to look at. When I looked through his portfolio this past weekend, this piece leapt out at me. Incredibly powerful image in this character study that reminds me a bit of both Lee Weeks and John Buscema.
Ivan had this in his portfolio as well. When I inquired about it, he stated that it was a cover he was working on that he didn't like and so it was never submitted to DC and went unpublished. The fact that this wasn't good enough for him, speaks volumes of the man's talent as well as his discernment over his artwork.
Picked these up at Baltimore, The first two by Tom Palmer and Alan Davis were won at the BCC auction the other by Mignola was from the last Heritage signature collection which I had shipped to a friend and he brought it to the show.
Grendle Man of Bronze - Tom Palmer (Grendle was the theme of the auction but Tom didn't know the character so Jim Warden described him to Tom and this is the idea Tom came up with. Love the colours and the mash up of Grendle and Doc Savage and paintings are hard to come by from Tom.)
Rachel and Kitty - Alan Davis (Love Alan's hound version of Rachel)
Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment - Mike Mignola and Mark Badger (Early in Mike's carreer. Love the story and art in the GN. Tough to find art from it but finally found a nice page with Strange and Doom in action.)
Grendle Shadow #1 - Matt Wagner, Big Thanks to Jim Warden for all his assistance in getting the cover. (Love the Art Deco fell to this piece. Matt has some amazing design chops..)
