Joel, hmmm... that might be why I was unable to "book" Ron Frenz until today... :-)  (Nice pic!)

Have a few things fresh from the copier (to reduce them to fit on my scanner) and my scanner.  First up, a personal "holy grail" that I took care of a little while ago - a page from the Aparo run on Batman and the Outsiders (in this case a page from #12 with inks from Dick Giordano):

(Not sure why the scan was so fuzzy.  Sorry.  Also, for those wondering about the "Drop red lines," that was a casualty of the copying process.  The real panel 5 is closer to this:

Although the red is a tad straighter... :-)  So for those who have the Showcase volume and are wondering why nothing is coming from Halo's hands, that's why.)

Star-Spangled Kid vs. the Shocker by Dick Ayers:

(I don't think this one played to his strengths, but I really liked the idea of a having a "participant" who was actually working in the industry when the original All-Star Comics JSA series was still running.  Plus, he got his start working on a lesser Jerry Siegel co-creation (Funnyman) so it's only fitting that he get to draw another lesser Jerry Siegel co-creation. :-) (SSK) )

Starman vs. Looter/Meteor Man by Ramona Fradon  (Thanks again to Gerry Turnbull & Paulo Pereira for reference.)

She even included the balloon.  How cool is that? :-)

Toldja I was being thorough...  (A bit of artistic license on RT's face, given that period of the character's history, but nothing wrong with that.)

Huntress & Robin vs. the Kingpin by Dick Giordano (after Mazzuchelli)

(It's kinda funny - the four "post-GA JSA"/"early Romita Spider-Man villain" matchups were later additions to the overall concept yet those pieces ended up being done first.  Go fig.)

Frenz has a great ability to utilize the "style" of other great artists while not mimmicking them. He did this with Spidey in the 80s w/ a Ditko style in Amazing (which looked much different than his Spider-Man work in Marvel Team Up previously). I loved this style. Then he slowly transitioned more to a Romita style in the later issues of his run. As Joe said, Frenz went for a Kirby look w/ Thor. And now with Spider-Girl, it seems like he's going for a looser, more cartoony look ...likely to emphasize the fun nature of the series. Personally I don't think it's too cartoony at all (especially compared to other stuff other), but that's just my opinion.
